Journey back to a golden era of Speyside mastery with Glenlivet 49 Year Old – 1955 Vintage “Smith’s” (Cask #3059, bottled 2005 by Gordon & MacPhail).
Filled into a first-fill Oloroso sherry butt on 15 November 1955 and left to slumber for almost half a century in G&M’s Elgin warehouses, this venerable malt was drawn on 3 October 2005 for the revered Distillery Labels range, proudly bearing the historic George & J.G. Smith’s Glenlivet livery. Bottled at natural in colour, it unveils layer upon layer of honeyed orchard fruit, polished mahogany and rancio-tinged spice—an exquisite portrait of mid-century Glenlivet craftsmanship.

Why We Think You’ll Love It

  • Single first-fill Oloroso butt (#3059) endows luxurious dried-fruit richness, dark-chocolate depth and polished spice.

  • 49 years of dunnage maturation transform Glenlivet’s orchard-fruit purity into layers of mahogany sweetness, resin and refined rancio complexity.

  • Bears the heritage “George & J.G. Smith’s Glenlivet” label—part of Gordon & MacPhail’s iconic Distillery Labels series.

  • A rare window into 1950s Speyside—ideal for collectors, sherried-malt connoisseurs and whisky historians seeking a serene, contemplative dram.

Pour a measure of this distinguished Glenlivet and savour an unforgettable union of honeyed depth, opulent Oloroso richness and time-honed elegance—an extraordinary whisky that resonates long after the final sip.

The Distillery

Glenlivet
Glenlivet Distillery, founded by George Smith in 1859 after outgrowing his original distillery at Upper Drumin, was established at Minore just upstream of the River Livet in Scotland’s prestigious Speyside whisky region. In the 1850s, the Edinburgh-based firm Andrew Usher revolutionized whisky production by creating the first vatting of malt whisky from a single distillery, blending various vintages of Glenlivet whisky and setting new standards for modern whisky blending techniques. Following a major expansion in 2010, Glenlivet Distillery now features an impressive fourteen stills, making it one of the largest malt whisky distilleries in Scotland. Renowned for its exceptional single malts, Glenlivet offers a diverse range including the beloved Glenlivet Founders Reserve and the sophisticated Nadurra, each celebrated for their superior quality and distinctive flavor profiles. As a flagship distillery in the Speyside region, Glenlivet Distillery continues to uphold its legacy of excellence, attracting whisky enthusiasts and connoisseurs worldwide with its rich heritage, expansive production capabilities, and commitment to crafting outstanding single malt Scotch whisky.
