The Dumbarton 25 Year Old 2000 – Unicorn is a rare Lowland single grain Scotch whisky from the now-closed Dumbarton distillery, bottled in February 2026 from a single first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead. Distilled in 2000 and bottled at a commanding 56.6% ABV, this limited release of just 264 bottles offers a luxurious and deeply characterful snapshot of a lost Scottish grain distillery.
Long maturation in fresh PX oak has layered the naturally creamy Dumbarton grain spirit with rich waves of dark sugar, raisin syrup and polished oak. The sweetness of Pedro Ximénez cask influence harmonises beautifully with the distillate’s vanilla-laced softness, creating a dram that is indulgent yet remarkably balanced.
The distinctive Unicorn label pays tribute to Dumbarton’s most famous guardians — the legendary distillery geese. Known as the “Scotch Watch,” these Chinese white geese were employed by Ballantine’s from 1959 until 2012 to protect bonded warehouses. Growing to a flock of over 100 birds, their formidable noise and presence made them an iconic part of Scotch whisky folklore before retiring to Glasgow Green. This bottling captures not just a whisky, but a story.
