Tasting Notes
Ardbeg 17 Year Old 2008 Murray McDavid Mission Gold is a rare and powerful Islay single malt Scotch whisky, selected and bottled by Murray McDavid for its prestigious Mission Gold collection. Distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2026 after 17 years of maturation, this exceptional release was matured in an Oloroso sherry butt and bottled at a formidable 57.2% ABV. With just 149 bottles released, it represents a particularly scarce independently bottled expression from one of Islay's most celebrated distilleries. Ardbeg's unmistakably intense peated spirit is a natural partner for rich Oloroso sherry oak. Dense bonfire smoke, maritime salinity, and earthy peat meet layers of dried fruit, dark chocolate, roasted nuts, and warming spice. At 17 years old, the whisky has developed impressive depth and maturity while retaining the powerful smoky character for which Ardbeg is renowned, with the Oloroso butt adding richness and complexity without disguising the underlying Islay spirit.
