New Unicorn Series Releases Arrive at The Whisky Barrel: Islay Smoke, Lost Distillery Cambus & a 40 Year Old Invergordon

The latest chapter in the The Whisky Barrel Unicorn Series has arrived — three exclusive single-cask Scotch whisky releases showcasing the diversity, creativity, and collectability that have made the series one of our most exciting projects to date.

From heavily peated Islay single malt to mature old grain whisky from Scotland’s lost distilleries, this latest trio highlights three very different styles of Scotch whisky, each bottled from our own curated cask collection and paired with bold bespoke Unicorn artwork inspired by Scotland’s mythology, landscapes, and culture.

Bunnahabhain Staoisha 12 Year Old 2013 ‘World Cup Unicorn’

Bunnahabhain Staoisha 12 Year Old 2013 World Cup Unicorn brings together smoky Islay whisky and football-inspired Unicorn artwork celebrating Scotland’s international football spirit in 2026.

Distilled at Bunnahabhain under the heavily peated Staoisha style, this single cask delivers waves of coastal peat smoke, charred citrus, sea salt, sweet malt, and bonfire ash — classic Islay character bottled at natural cask strength with no added colour or chill filtration.

The tactical pitch-inspired label design gives this release a playful modern twist while staying true to the mythology and collectability that define the Unicorn Series.

Cambus 33 Year Old 1993 ‘Unicorn Skeletons’

Cambus 33 Year Old 1993 Unicorn Skeletons celebrates one of Scotland’s legendary lost distilleries.

Closed in 1993, Cambus has become increasingly sought-after among collectors of mature single grain Scotch whisky. After more than three decades of maturation, this single cask offers luxurious layers of vanilla fudge, coconut cream, polished oak, crème brûlée, and tropical fruit sweetness.

The dramatic “Unicorn Skeletons” artwork — featuring skeleton figures pursuing a Unicorn across the iconic Cambus bridge — captures the ghostly legacy of a distillery lost to history while adding a bold visual identity unique to the Unicorn Series.

Invergordon 40 Year Old 1986 ‘Unicorn Dolphins’

The oldest release in the trio, Invergordon 40 Year Old 1986 Unicorn Dolphins, showcases the elegance and complexity that only four decades of maturation can create.

This Highland single grain Scotch whisky reveals rich tropical fruits, honeyed vanilla, toasted oak, soft spice, and luxurious sweetness balanced by fresh coastal notes inspired by Scotland’s northern shoreline.

The bespoke label design features Unicorns and dolphins against a maritime backdrop inspired by the Cromarty Firth — celebrating the distillery’s coastal location and Scotland’s deep connection to the sea.

The Unicorn Series Continues

The Unicorn has wandered Scottish mythology for centuries as a symbol of purity, strength, mystery, and imagination. At The Whisky Barrel, the Unicorn Series allows us to combine exceptional single-cask Scotch whisky with evolving artistic interpretations that make every release distinctive and collectible.

Whether it’s smoky Islay peat, elegant old grain whisky, or lost distillery character, every Unicorn release is selected when we believe the cask is truly ready — bottled naturally, in limited numbers, and designed to stand apart from ordinary whisky releases.
