Bunnahabhain (Staoisha heavily-peated) 12 Year Old 2013 Unicorn is a powerful and smoky Islay single malt Scotch whisky, bottled exclusively for The Whisky Barrel as part of the acclaimed Unicorn Series. Distilled in 2013 at Bunnahabhain Distillery using the heavily peated Staoisha spirit style, this exceptional release matured in a single first fill bourbon barrel (#1047) before being bottled in May 2026 at a natural cask strength of 56.1% ABV. Just 179 bottles yielded form the single barrel.
Maturation in a first fill bourbon barrel allows the bold peat smoke and maritime character of Staoisha to shine with clarity and intensity. Layers of vanilla, citrus, coastal salinity, and charred oak intertwine with powerful Islay smoke, creating a whisky that is both vibrant and deeply complex. Bottled without chill-filtration or added colour, this is an uncompromising cask strength Islay dram.
The 2026 Unicorn Series label celebrates the spirit of global competition and unity inspired by the landmark 2026 football tournament, hosted jointly across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament will be the first hosted by three nations and the first to feature 48 competing teams, making this release a fitting tribute to a historic international occasion.
