Independent Bottler

Signatory Vintage

Established in 1988 by Andrew and Brian Symington, this independent Scotch whisky bottling business originally operated out of Newhaven on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth, just north of Edinburgh. In 1997, Andrew Symington took over the business and, by 2002, purchased the Edradour Distillery near Pitlochry in Perthshire—relocating the bottling operations to a new facility adjacent to this historic Highland distillery. Signatory built a reputation of high quality and varied Scotch whisky through the renowned Cask Strength and unchillfiltered ranges. Today,  the portfolio includes the hugely popular 100-Proof Editions and adding his own name to the Symington's Choice of Cask Strength releases, underscoring their commitment to producing high-quality single malts that capture the essence of Scotland’s whisky-making heritage.

About Signatory Vintage

Signatory Vintage was founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington, and has become s one of Scotland's most respected independent Scotch whisky bottlers. Starting out as a specialist cask buyer to becoming a globally recognised name in whisky, Signatory has developed relationships with many of Scotland's distilleries to allow them to release exceptional single malt and single grain Scotch whisky.

Today, having bought Edradour Distillery in Perthshire, at the start of the century, Signatory Vintage bottles whisky with a focus on authenticity and flavour. They do not chill filter or add colour, allowing whisky enthusiasts to experience each cask, and distillery, as naturally as possible.

TWB & Signatory Vintage

The Whisky Barrel has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Signatory Vintage. They continue to be one of our most trusted independent bottling partners. We have worked closely with Signatory to create a number of exclusive single cask bottlings available only through The Whisky Barrel, including some exceptional Macallan and Glenlivet casks. Many of these we sampled in the very warehouses they were maturing in.

We continue this relationship with exclusive releases in order to bring our customers around the world, the opportunity to purchase and enjoy truly unfettled Scotch whisky.

Why Whisky Enthusiasts Choose Signatory Vintage

Signatory has built its reputation on offering a huge variety of distillery whiskies and a commitment to preserving whisky character. Their warehouses are teeming with incredible cask from some of the biggest brands and distilleries in Scotland. Independent bottlings provide unique opportunities to experience different cask types, ages, strengths and flavour profiles from favourite distilleries; no marketing and no fuss.

This approach means collectors and enthusiasts truly value Signatory releases for their transparency, detailed cask information and wide range of bottling styles, from approachable everyday drams to rare and highly collectible aged expressions.

Signatory Vintage Whisky Ranges

Signatory Vintage Cask Strength Collection - Perhaps the flagship range, the Cask Strength Collection features single cask whiskies bottled as they come from the Cask. They showcase the whisky exactly as it matured, offering maximum flavour intensity and individuality.

Signatory Vintage Un-Chillfiltered Collection - One of Signatory's most popular ranges, although has now taken a backseat recently, the Un-Chillfiltered Collection is bottled at 46%abv without chill filtration. These whiskies retain more natural oils and texture, delivering a fuller flavour experience; a key consideration for the whisky connoisseur.

Signatory Vintage 100-Proof Edition - The Signatory 100-Proof Edition range has become an absolute fan favourite over the past couple of years. Bottled at 57.1% ABV (100 Proof - UK standard), these whiskies combine quality, flavour and genuine affordability from a wide range of renowned distilleries.

Distilleries Featured by Signatory Vintage

Signatory Vintage's warehouses are perhaps some of the most well stocked and plentiful in the world. This allows them to bottle whisky from many of Scotland's most famous distilleries, including:

  • Macallan, Highland Park, Ben Nevis, Mortlach, Clynelish, Glenlivet, Linkwood, Caol Ila, Laphroaig, Bunnahabhain, Glenrothes, Edradour

Alongside these well-known names, Signatory frequently releases whisky from lesser-known and closed distilleries, making the range particularly appealing to collectors and adventurous whisky drinkers.

FAQs About Signatory Vintage
What is Signatory Vintage?

Signatory Vintage is an independent Scotch whisky bottler founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington. They are located at Edradour Distillery in Pitlochry, which they also own and operate. Andrew and his team specialise in sourcing and bottling exceptional casks from distilleries across Scotland.

Is Signatory Vintage a distillery?

No. Signatory Vintage is an independent bottler rather than a distillery. The company purchases casks from distilleries and bottles them under the Signatory brand. Signatory is, however, owned by the same company that owns Edradour Distillery.

What is a Signatory Vintage single cask whisky?

A single cask whisky is bottled from one individual cask rather than being blended with whisky from multiple casks. Each release is unique, with its own flavour profile, bottle count and character.

What is the Signatory Vintage 100-Proof Edition?

The 100-Proof Edition range features whiskies bottled at 57.1% ABV (100 Proof -UK standard). The series has become popular for offering exceptional quality and value across a range of distilleries.

What makes Signatory Vintage whisky different?

Signatory Vintage is known for bottling whisky with minimal intervention, often without chill filtration or added colouring. Many releases are single cask bottlings, allowing whisky drinkers to experience unique and limited-edition expressions.

Are Signatory Vintage whiskies good for collecting?

Many Signatory Vintage releases are produced in limited quantities and feature rare vintages, unusual cask types or sought-after distilleries, making them popular among whisky collectors worldwide.

Does The Whisky Barrel offer exclusive Signatory Vintage bottlings?

Yes. The Whisky Barrel has worked with Signatory Vintage for many years to create exclusive single cask releases selected specifically for our customers. These limited bottlings are often available only through The Whisky Barrel.

Are Signatory Vintage whiskies natural colour?

Yes. Signatory Vintage releases are bottled without added colouring and without chill filtration. Individual bottling details can be found on each product page.

Does Signatory Vintage bottle Macallan and Highland Park?

Signatory Vintage has historically bottled casks from both distilleries, although some releases may be labelled as "Secret Speyside" denoted with an [M] or "Orkney" due to naming restrictions imposed by the distillery owners.

Which Signatory Vintage whisky should I buy first?

Signatory is well loved as they offer something for all budgets. Popular starting points include the Signatory 100-Proof series which have been priced very competitively, while the Cast Strength releases and exclusive single cask bottlings. The best choice depends on whether you enjoy sherry cask, bourbon cask, peated or unpeated Scotch whisky.
