Kilkerran Work in Progress 7 Sherrywood Campbeltown single malt Scotch whisky distilled at Glengyle distillery. The final release of the WIP series, an 11 Year Old bottled 2015 and fully matured in sherry casks. 12,000 bottles.
William Mitchell established Glengyle Distillery in 1872 in Campbeltown at the foot of the Kintyre Peninsular. Closed in 1925, malt whisky stock sold and all the equipment removed. The buildings were purchased by Hedley Wright in 2000 who re-furbished and re-opened Glengyle Distillery in 2004. Now equipped with two small stills and operating for one or two months per year to produce Glengyle single malt whisky which is called Kilkeran.
Nose: Toasted pink marshmallows spinning around fresh rhubarb and green apples. Toffee and treacle adds to the sweetness but an earthy note keeps this whisky well balanced and not overpoweringly sweet.
Palate: Heather honey and digestive biscuits. Creamy milk chocolate, black cherries mix with oak and wood spice. A truly complex and interesting dram.
Finish: Dry nutty finish with some gentle peat lingering along with some further oak notes... delicious.
