Braeval 12 Year Old 2001 vintage Speyside single malt Scotch whisky. Small batch release of two sherry butts bottled August 2013 Douglas Laing & Co. for the Single Minded range.

Braeval

Braeval Distillery is situated on the north-eastern edge of the Grampian Mountains and in the Cairngorms National Park at Chapeltown of Glenlivet in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region. Opened as Braes of Glenlivet in 1973 and re-named Braeval in 1995. Braeval is a Scottish malt whisky distillery and the highest working distillery in Scotland at an altitude of 352m. A modern pagoda roof towers over an attractive and relatively modern works. With white washed walls and dark slated roofs Braeval is well camouflaged when the snows falls. Production from six stills is geared up for the blending market, and there have been no distillery releases and just a very few independent ones to date.

Nose: Opens sweet and citric on the nose with attractive chocolate, butterscotch and mocha.
Palate: The palate is mouth coatingly spiced carrying flambéed orange plus more chocolate.
Finish: The finish is long, still zesty and runs drier to a lemon pith style.
