St George's Chapter 16 Peated Sherry Cask English single malt whisky. First release of a peated, sherry casks #693 & #694 bottled September 2014. 300 bottle limited release. St George’s (England) St. George’s Distillery is situated at Roudham, between Cambridge and Norwich in Norfolk, England  Opened at the end of 2006 and the first distillery in England to produce malt whisky in over a hundred years. St. George’s Distillery is equipped with two copper stills and water is extracted from an aquifer deep beneath the distillery. Around thirteen barrels of St. George’s spirit are produced per week, just one more than Edradour which is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. Both peated and unpeated malt whisky is being matured and bottled at St. George’s Distillery. Nose: I have never been in one, but what I would imagine the reading room of an old fashioned gentlemen’s club to smell like. Old books, soft warm leather, coffee grounds, bitter chocolate, soft aroma’s of cigar smoke. Hints of mint and walnuts. Rich fruits, think ripe dates and sticky prunes. Palate: Dry, the coffee grounds are there along with the chocolate. Very soft, rich and oily. Light smoke and again the sticky prunes and dates come through. Hints of toffee and ginger spice. There must be a joke here somewhere about having a bit of ginger spice in your mouth but I’ll leave that to others!
