Tasting Notes
Aroma: Aromas of rich fruitcake laden with plump raisins, sultanas, and orange peel. An elegant sweetness of candied ginger, almond marzipan, and treacle toffee. Wisps of wood smoke and tobacco linger upon a back drop of subtle oak. Taste: Toffee apples with fruit and nut dark chocolate flavours accompany mouth-warming cracked peppercorns. Spice sits in the background while wood tanins begin to take hold. Finish: Lingering and warming; roasted coffee beans evolve into a subtle herbal edge. Full of character with a crisp clean edge.
A magnificent relic from a bygone era, the Dallas Dhu 50 Year Old 1969 was distilled on Tuesday 10th June 1969 at the now-silent Dallas Dhu Distillery. Matured for half a century in a single refill sherry hogshead #1656, this exquisite Highland single malt was bottled on 12th June 2019 by Gordon & MacPhail as part of their revered Private Collection series. Only 176 hand-blown crystal decanters were produced, making this a true rarity.

The Distillery
Dallas Dhu
Dallas Dhu Distillery, designed by Charles C. Doig and founded by Alexander Edward in 1898, is located near Dallas in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region. Although it ceased operations as a working malt whisky distillery in 1983, it has functioned as a distillery museum under the care of Historic Environment Scotland, retaining much of its original equipment—including two round wooden worm tubs—and participating in the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival. In recent years, Gordon & MacPhail has released vintage Dallas Dhu bottlings, reflecting continued interest in this storied site. In July 2024, a major development was announced: Dallas Dhu Distillery will reopen as an operational distillery with a visitor centre, managed by Aceo Distillers Company Limited (Aceo) through a phased program of site development—heralding a new chapter for this historic Speyside landmark.
