Tomatin 30 Year Old Highland single malt Scotch whisky. Matured in a combination of European and North American Oak casks. Only 1,500 bottles are released each year.
This 2014 release is the final bottling of the 30 Year Old.
Tomatin malt whisky distillery was established in 1897 and operated with two stills until 1956 after which there were frequent and numerous additions culminating in 23 stills in 1986 making Tomatin the largest distillery in Scotland at that time. However, eleven were subsequently closed and it is currently operating with twelve. Tomatin Distillery is a Scottish Highland distillery situated close to the Cairngorms National Park and sitting at an altitude of 315m it is the third highest distillery in Scotland. Great importance is placed on the quality of its casks and Tomatin Distillery is one of very few Scottish distilleries to continue to operate a cooperage and to employ a cooper on site. Visitors are welcomed at the Tomatin Distillery visitor centre where distillery tours are available.
Nose: Intense juicy aromas arouse the senses - Green Apples, Passion Fruit, Honey Dew Melon, Blackcurrant and Blueberries. Citrus notes come to the fore all the while a candy sweetness drifts along with hints of polished leather in the background.
Palate: Gooseberry, Ginger and Hazelnuts make way for spicy oak which hits the middle of the tongue. The oak is balanced beautifully by a honey sweetness that drifts to the back of the palate.
Finish: Long, clean and pleasurable.
