Tasting Notes

Nose: Soft waves of blackcurrant coulis, red apple peel and heather honey mingle with polished oak, rose petal and a dusting of cocoa. Palate: Silky layers of raspberry trifle, malted biscuit and vanilla cream glide across the tongue, followed by clove-spiced chocolate, toasted almond and a gentle hint of red-wine tannin. Finish: Medium-long and graceful—lingering dark-berry sweetness, subtle oak spice and a final flourish of citrus-zest freshness.
Discover a Speyside rarity with Strathmill 28 Year Old – 1996 Vintage, Murray McDavid “Mission Gold”. Initially aged in refill bourbon wood, this single malt received an extended finish in hand-selected Saint-Julien red-wine barriques from Bordeaux, where vibrant cassis and silky tannins fused with Strathmill’s gentle orchard-fruit spirit. Bottled in 2025 at a respectful 48 % ABV, non-chill-filtered and natural in colour, the release is limited to just 516 individually numbered bottles—an elegant union of Speyside charm and Left-Bank sophistication.

The Distillery

Strathmill
Strathmill Distillery, originally established by John Keith in 1825, operated until 1829 before being converted into a corn mill. In 1891, the site was reconverted into a distillery, nestled between the River Isla and the Great North of Scotland Railway on the outskirts of Keith. Equipped with four stills and retaining its traditional pagoda roofs, Strathmill produces malt whisky primarily for blending, contributing to some of Scotland’s most famous blends. As a result, official releases are rare, making Strathmill a hidden treasure in Scotland's Speyside whisky region.
