SPEY Tenné single malt Scotch whisky from the Speyside Distillery Company. Bourbon cask matured follwed by double maturation Tawny Port casks from the Quinto do Filoco winery.
The original Speyside Distillery resided and flourished in Kingussie from 1895 until 1905 before being demolished in 1911. Construction of the present Speyside Distillery commenced in 1962 and was completed in 1987, the stills were fired into life just the right side of Christmas 1990. Speyside Distillery is a small malt whisky distillery equipped with just two stills and is situated near Drumguish and Kingussie and close to the River Tormie, a tributary of the River Spey, near Kingussie in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region.
The clean fresh fruit aroma of apples, pears and a trace of overripe bananas laced with milk chocolate and vanilla suggests a sweet taste and indeed this port wood finish from rich tawny port wood casks does not disappoint, An excellent choice as a pre-dinner aperitif it is very sweet to the taste and leads to a medium finish that does not overstay its welcome.
