Tasting Notes

Nose: Soft vanilla custard, toasted coconut and honey-dipped cereal mingle with pineapple chunks, orange blossom and a hint of sandalwood. Palate: Silky waves of toffee cream, banana bread and sweet malt coat the tongue, followed by cinnamon warmth, almond brittle and a gentle touch of oak char. Finish: Long, satin-smooth and gently warming—lingering demerara sweetness, mellow oak spice and a final flourish of candied citrus peel.
Revisit Glasgow’s whisky heritage with Port Dundas 26 Year Old – 1998 Vintage, Murray McDavid “Mission Gold.” Distilled at the long-gone Lowland grain colossus and matured its entire life in a single ex-bourbon hogshead, this whisky was bottled in 2024 at natural cask strength. Non-chill-filtered and natural in colour, the release is limited to just 200 individually numbered bottles. Two and a half decades of quiet slumber have transformed Port Dundas’s creamy grain spirit into a satin-smooth medley of vanilla fudge, tropical fruit and polished oak—captured here in its purest, most luxurious form.

The Distillery

Port Dundas
Port Dundas Distillery, founded by Daniel McFarlane in 1811 in Glasgow’s Port Dundas area, was a cornerstone of Scotland’s whisky industry. The area rapidly evolved into an industrial hub with three distilleries sharing the Port Dundas name. By 1845, the two operating distilleries adopted Coffey stills for grain spirit production and merged in 1877, becoming the world’s largest distillery by 1885, processing corn, barley, and rye, with grain imported from America. At its peak in 1886, it featured two malt kilns, five grain kilns, thirty-five washbacks, three Coffey stills, and five pot stills. The distillery closed in 2010, with demolition following shortly after, marking the end of a significant chapter in whisky history.
