Tasting Notes

This amber coloured whisky has intense notes of stewed plums, dark chocolate sauce and various aromatic spices on the nose. Surprisingly soft and sweet on the palate, more on milk chocolate, rum & raisin ice cream and heather honey, leading into a long, dessert-like finish.
The Pittyvaich 33 Year Old 1990 is an extraordinary and rare Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, bottled by Hunter Laing & Co. for their prestigious Old & Rare Platinum series. Distilled in 1990 at the now-lost Pittyvaich Distillery and matured for over three decades in a single Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead, this remarkable whisky was bottled in September 2023 and released as a limited edition of 223 individually numbered bottles. Long-aged Pittyvaich is exceptionally scarce, and this sherry-rich cask showcases the depth, elegance, and power of one of Speyside’s most elusive distilleries.

Why We Think You’ll Love It

  • Distilled in 1990 at the lost Pittyvaich Distillery

  • Matured 33 years in a single Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead

  • Bottled for Hunter Laing’s Old & Rare Platinum series

  • Limited edition: 223 individually numbered bottles

  • A rare opportunity to experience long-aged Pittyvaich with deep PX sherry influence

The Pittyvaich 33 Year Old 1990 Old & Rare Platinum is a magnificent, deeply sherried single malt that beautifully captures the richness and rarity of this closed Speyside distillery. A must-have for collectors and enthusiasts of lost distilleries and exceptional sherry casks.

The Distillery

Pittyvaich
Pittyvaich Distillery, a closed and demolished Scotch whisky distillery, was founded in 1975 by Arthur Bell & Sons in the Speyside whisky region to meet the high demand for Bell’s Blended Whisky. With declining demand, the distillery ceased operations in 1993 and was demolished in 2002, becoming one of Scotland’s lost distilleries. Rare single malt Scotch whisky from Pittyvaich had previously been included in Diageo’s Flora & Fauna range and now occasionally features in Diageo Special Releases and Gordon & MacPhail’s Connoisseurs Choice series, making it a sought-after collector’s gem.
