Tasting Notes
Macallan Speymalt 22 Year Old 2004 Single Cask is a rare and highly collectible Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, distilled at The Macallan Distillery in 2004 and bottled in 2026 by Gordon & MacPhail for its renowned Speymalt series. Matured in a single first-fill sherry hogshead, cask #22606608, this 22 year old release was bottled at a powerful 59.3% ABV, yielding just 324 bottles. Released exclusively for the United Kingdom market, it is a particularly scarce example of independently bottled Macallan. The Speymalt from Macallan range has long showcased Gordon & MacPhail’s relationship with this celebrated Speyside distillery, combining carefully selected Macallan spirit with the independent bottler’s expertise in long-term maturation. Here, more than two decades in a first-fill sherry hogshead have created a whisky of impressive depth, with the rich dried fruit and spice of sherry oak layered over Macallan’s naturally weighty, fruit-driven spirit. The first-fill sherry cask brings concentrated notes of raisins, figs, dark chocolate, roasted nuts and orange, while 22 years of maturation add polished oak, leather and warming spice. Bottled at 59.3% ABV, the whisky retains remarkable intensity for its age, offering a powerful and richly sherried expression with considerable structure and complexity.
