Tasting Notes

Nose: Layers of dried apricot, raisin loaf and orange-peel marmalade rise over beeswax-polished oak, heather honey and a trace of cinnamon bark. Palate: Silky waves of treacle toffee, dark-chocolate truffle and sweet malt coat the tongue, followed by clove-spiked caramel, roasted hazelnut and a bright flash of candied citrus. Finish: Long, warming and gracefully dry—lingering sherry-soaked fruitcake, supple oak tannin and a final flourish of vanilla-malt sweetness.
Raise a toast to Scotland’s national bard with Macallan “Robert Burns Semiquincentenary” Decanter – a distillery-only masterpiece created for Homecoming Scotland 2009 to mark the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns’ birth (1759-2009). Macallan’s whisky makers selected two sibling Sherry-seasoned casks – one distilled in 1997, the other in 1998 – each bearing the commemorative cask number #1759. Marrying these twin casks yielded just 250 crystal decanters, every one presented in a handcrafted Scottish red-pine box that conceals a vellum scroll of Burns poetry, unique to each bottle. Bottled at a dignified 46 % ABV, non-chill-filtered and natural in colour, this highly prized release intertwines Macallan’s orchard-fruit luxury with the timeless words of Scotland’s favourite son.

Why We Think You’ll Love It

  • Commemorative casks #1759: two Sherry-seasoned barrels distilled in 1997 & 1998, both numbered for Burns’s birth year.

  • Decanter & red-pine chest: exquisite crystal vessel and locally sourced wooden case, each containing a unique Burns poem scroll.

  • Distillery-only rarity: just 250 individually numbered bottles, sold exclusively at Macallan’s Easter Elchies shop in 2009.

  • Bottled at 46 % ABV, non-chill-filtered, natural colour—capturing Macallan’s hallmark orchard fruit, honeyed malt and polished oak in full.

  • A collector’s convergence of Scots heritage, literary celebration and Speyside craftsmanship—perfect for Burns Night or display beside treasured editions of the poet’s work.

Pour a measure of this historic Macallan and savour an elegant union of sherried richness, honeyed fruit and poetic legacy—a dram that honours Robert Burns’s immortal spirit with every luxurious sip.

The Distillery

Macallan
The Macallan Distillery, founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 as Elchies Distillery near Easter Elchies House—a site dating back to 1700—is a prestigious Speyside malt whisky distillery. Re-commissioned in 2008, the distillery now operates with two still houses housing twenty-one copper stills. A new state-of-the-art facility is under construction, expanding capacity to thirty-one stills and solidifying Macallan’s position among the top whisky producers by volume. On-site maturation occurs in traditional dunnage warehouses and modern large warehouses on the estate. Renowned for its exquisite single malts, popular releases include the Macallan 18 Year Old and the Macallan 30 Year Old.
