A much sought-after oily and rich single malt whisky which has been double matured in sweet Pedro-Ximenez sherry casks.
Lagavulin Distillery was established in 1816 by John Johnston on the rocky south coast of the Isle of Islay off the west coast of Scotland. In 1908 Malt Mill Distillery was built next to Lagavulin Distillery but it closed in 1960 and although some of its buildings remain Malt Mill is now a lost distillery. Lagavulin is a malt whisky distillery which welcomes visitors at the Lagavulin visitor centre and offers distillery tours and participates in Feis Ile, the Islay Festival of Malt and Music, and sponsors the Lagavulin Islay Jazz Festival.
Begins with sweetness, and ends with peat, smoke and hints of seaweed. Incredibly long finish even by Lagavulin standards, smooth and rounded, with waves of sandy dryness
