Tasting Notes

Nose: Billows of hearth smoke and sea-spray weave through raisin syrup, orange peel and polished oak. Palate: A velvet rush of fig jam, toffee fudge and sweet malt coats the tongue, chased by clove-spiked chocolate, liquorice root and a bright citrus lift. Finish: Long, smouldering and gently dry—lingering camp-fire embers, sherry-soaked fruitcake and a final flourish of salted caramel.

For this commemorative release, Anthony Wills selected five 2008- & 2009-vintage Oloroso sherry butts—among the oldest stock maturing in Kilchoman’s dunnage warehouses. Bottled in 2025 at a robust 52.7 % ABV, non-chill-filtered and natural in colour, the whisky fuses Kilchoman’s trademark coastal peat with luxurious layers of dark fruit, toffee and warming spice. Limited to a small batch, it stands as a fitting tribute to twenty pioneering years of “Islay’s farm distillery.”

The Distillery

Kilchoman Distillery, founded by Anthony Wills in 2005, is beautifully situated at Rockside Farm near the historic Kilchoman Cross and Kilchoman Church on the west side of Islay. As the island’s newest and most westerly distillery, Kilchoman specialises in producing exceptional single malt whisky through a field-to-bottle process, malting barley grown in Rockside fields and using pure local Islay water. Operating with just two small stills, Kilchoman is one of Scotland’s smallest working distilleries. Distinguished bottlings include Kilchoman Loch Gorm and Kilchoman Sanaig, highly prized by whisky enthusiasts worldwide.
