An exceptional 37 year old Highland Park expression matured in refill-casks and released Spring 2010.
The packaging expresses Orkney's Nordic heritage featuring a wood carving of the Viking Oseberg ship.
Highland Park Distillery is the most northerly malt whisky distillery in Scotland and the closest Scottish distillery to the Arctic Circle. Highland Park was established in 1798 and is one of the few Scottish distilleries which continues to malt barley on its own traditional malting floors and to use locally cut peat from Hobbister Moor in its malt kiln. The distillery visitor centre welcomes visitors and offers distillery tours.
Nose: Complex aromatic layers emerge as this whisky reveals itself. Vanilla and toffee sweetness are evident; enticing floral notes and hints of heather are followed by dried citrus fruits, nutmeg and coconut.
Palate: The assertive citrus notes are balanced by the layers of caramel, cinnamon and soft floral flavours. The slight oak tones are first balanced, then swept aside by the late arrival of classic Highland Park spicy smokiness.
