Hanyu 2000 Vintage Japanese single malt whisky. Single cask #921 bottled 2014 by Number One Drinks Co. Distilled during the final year of production at the Hanyu distillery.
Hanyu Distillery was built in 1941 to manufacture alcohol, but not whisky. Situated on the main Japanese island of Honsh in Hanyu City to the north of Tokyo. Hanyu commenced production of whisky during the 1980s and operated with four washbacks and two stills and lightly malted barley. Production ended in 2000 and Hanyu Distillery was demolished in 2004. Sasanokawa Shuzo, a sake maker from northern Japan, and Ichiro Akuto, a grandson of the original owners, rescued the last casks from Hanyu Distillery which are being released in limited edition bottling of Hanyu single malt whisky and Hanyu single cask whisky.
