Tasting Notes

Nose: Bright notes of sea-spray and lemon bon-bons mingle with soft toffee, sultanas and freshly planed oak. Palate: A lively fusion of creamy malt, dried apricot and vanilla fudge, followed by a ripple of cinnamon, ginger snap and coastal salinity. Finish: Medium, clean and gently warming—leaving lingering malt sweetness, a hint of brine and a final touch of spiced raisin bread.
Raise a toast to new beginnings with Glenglassaugh “The First Cask” – 2008 Vintage (bottled 2011). Distilled soon after the coastal Highland distillery’s 2008 revival, this whisky was drawn from Sherry Butt #1—the very first cask laid down under the new ownership—and bottled just three years later as a celebratory snapshot of Glenglassaugh’s rebirth. Limited to 650 individually numbered bottles, this youthful single malt captures the fresh, maritime spirit of Sandend Bay, wrapped in an early kiss of sherry-cask sweetness.

Why We Think You’ll Love It:

  • Distillery milestone: the first sherry butt (#1) filled after Glenglassaugh’s 2008 restart—bottled to mark the renaissance.

  • Offers a rare glimpse of ultra-young Glenglassaugh, balancing crisp coastal freshness with early sherry richness.

  • Limited to 650 bottles, making it a sought-after collectible for fans of the distillery’s modern era.

  • Bottled at natural colour and without chill-filtration, preserving the whisky’s vibrant texture and authentic flavour.

Enjoy this historic dram for its spirited energy and symbolic place in Glenglassaugh’s resurgence—an exuberant coastal malt that celebrates the dawn of a new chapter.

The Distillery

Glenglassaugh
Glenglassaugh Distillery, a prestigious Highland malt whisky distillery, is beautifully situated at Sandend Bay near Portsoy on the scenic Banffshire coast. Boasting breathtaking views north over the Moray Firth and the North Sea, Glenglassaugh is one of the few truly coastal Highland distilleries in Scotland, offering a unique maritime influence to its whisky. Established by James Moir and officially opened in 1875, the distillery has a rich heritage in Scotch whisky production. In 1959, Glenglassaugh underwent substantial rebuilding and successfully reopened in 1960, only to face closure in 1986. Demonstrating remarkable resilience, the distillery resumed operations in December 2008 and is now proudly owned by Brown-Forman of America. Today, Glenglassaugh continues to craft exceptional single malt Scotch whiskies, blending traditional distilling techniques with modern innovation, making it a beloved choice among whisky enthusiasts and collectors worldwide. Whether admired for its stunning coastal location or its dedication to quality, Glenglassaugh Distillery remains a cornerstone of Scotland’s esteemed whisky landscape.
