Tasting Notes

Nose: Waves of raisin syrup, polished mahogany and salted caramel drift over hints of dried mango, beeswax and distant sea-spray. Palate: Velvet layers of fig compôte, dark chocolate truffle and treacle-toffee glide across the tongue, entwined with walnut loaf, clove and a subtle coastal salinity. Finish: Long, warming and profoundly elegant—lingering PX-soaked fruitcake, mellow oak spice and a final whisper of sweet pipe-tobacco and briny toffee.

Celebrate four decades of coastal Highland maturation with Glenglassaugh 40 Year Old – 1975 Rare Cask, PX Hogshead #3171. Filled into a single Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead in 1975 and drawn in September 2015, this venerable malt captures Sea-air elegance drenched in sun-ripened sherry richness. Only 205 bottles emerged—this being Bottle #1—each presented non-chill-filtered and at natural colour. Years of gentle slumber beside Sandend Bay have fused tropical fruit, antique oak and maritime brine into a whisky of unrivalled depth and grace.

Why We Think You’ll Love It:

  • Single-cask rarity: only 205 bottles—and you hold Bottle #1 from PX Hogshead #3171.

  • 40 years beside Sandend Bay marry Glenglassaugh’s honeyed malt with opulent sherry depths and a soft maritime breeze.

  • Bottled non-chill-filtered at natural colour and cask strength, preserving every layer of texture, aroma and coastal complexity.

  • A crown-jewel Highland dram for collectors and sherried-malt connoisseurs seeking the ultimate expression of mature PX richness and coastal refinement.

Raise a glass to time, tide and tradition with this extraordinary Glenglassaugh—a stately whisky that weaves four decades of history into each unforgettable sip.

The Distillery

Glenglassaugh
Glenglassaugh Distillery, a prestigious Highland malt whisky distillery, is beautifully situated at Sandend Bay near Portsoy on the scenic Banffshire coast. Boasting breathtaking views north over the Moray Firth and the North Sea, Glenglassaugh is one of the few truly coastal Highland distilleries in Scotland, offering a unique maritime influence to its whisky. Established by James Moir and officially opened in 1875, the distillery has a rich heritage in Scotch whisky production. In 1959, Glenglassaugh underwent substantial rebuilding and successfully reopened in 1960, only to face closure in 1986. Demonstrating remarkable resilience, the distillery resumed operations in December 2008 and is now proudly owned by Brown-Forman of America. Today, Glenglassaugh continues to craft exceptional single malt Scotch whiskies, blending traditional distilling techniques with modern innovation, making it a beloved choice among whisky enthusiasts and collectors worldwide. Whether admired for its stunning coastal location or its dedication to quality, Glenglassaugh Distillery remains a cornerstone of Scotland’s esteemed whisky landscape.
