Tasting Notes

Dark rich treacle. Rich heavy aromas, caramel, cotton candy, puff candy. All the delights of going to a fairground. A Christmas cake dram, heavy dark fruits, light nuttiness and burnt demerara sugar. New car, leather seat smell. Dessert itself, to be nosed for a long time before being savoured. I advise giving this whisky time in your glass rather than adding water. But always up to you!
Step into Speyside history with Glenfarclas 1958 – “Family Casks” Release A13 (Autumn 2013).
Filled on 23 December 1958 into a single sherry-seasoned hogshead (#2064) and resting undisturbed in the Grant family’s dunnage warehouses for more than half a century, this venerable malt was drawn—at natural cask strength—in June 2013. Bottled non-chill-filtered and natural in colour, only 158 individually numbered bottles preserve Glenfarclas’ honey-malt heart now polished into layers of antique oak, dark fruit and elegant rancio spice.

Why We Think You’ll Love It

  • Single-cask pedigree: full-term maturation in a sherry hogshead delivers decadent dried-fruit richness, chocolate depth and refined spice.

  • Over 54 years of slumber polish Glenfarclas’ orchard-fruit core into mahogany sweetness and elegant rancio complexity.

  • Bottled at natural cask strength, non-chill-filtered and natural colour—preserving authentic texture, aroma and deep antique-ruby hue.

  • Part of the iconic “Family Casks” series—Release A13, strictly 158 bottles, an essential treasure for collectors and sherried-malt connoisseurs.

  • Exemplifies Glenfarclas’ hallmark balance of dark fruit, polished oak and warming spice at its most luxurious and age-defining.

Pour a measure of this distinguished 1958 Glenfarclas and savour an unforgettable union of honeyed depth, opulent sherry richness and time-honed elegance—an extraordinary dram that resonates long after the final sip.

The Distillery

Glenfarclas
Founded in 1836 by Robert Hay, Glenfarclas Distillery is a prestigious pillar of Scotland’s Speyside whisky region. Acquired by John Grant in 1865, the distillery has remained under the Grant family’s ownership ever since, preserving a legacy of tradition and excellence. The Glenfarclas Visitor Centre boasts a stunning interior adorned with original oak panels salvaged from the historic SS Empress of Australia liner, scrapped in 1952. Central to Glenfarclas’ whisky-making philosophy are Ace sherry casks, which form the foundation of their acclaimed single malt Scotch whiskies, including the esteemed Glenfarclas 15 Year Old, the robust Glenfarclas 105, and the elegant Glenfarclas 21 Year Old. In 1968, Glenfarclas released its first cask strength single malt, further cementing its reputation among whisky connoisseurs. The Family Cask range showcases exclusive, limited-edition whiskies that highlight the distillery’s unwavering commitment to quality and heritage. Whether you’re a seasoned whisky enthusiast or a curious newcomer, Glenfarclas Distillery offers an unparalleled Scotch whisky experience that honors its rich history and family legacy.
