Single refill hogshead cask #6923. 1965 vintage single grain from William Grants Girvan distillery at Ailsa Bay - rarely bottled as single grain let alone at this age. Bottled at full strength.
Girvan Distillery is a Scottish Lowland grain whisky distillery situated on the Ayrshire coast. William Grant and Sons Ltd opened Girvan Distillery in 1963 to supply grain whisky to Grant’s blends of scotch but with maturation in quality casks in warehouses subject to coastal influences Girvan Distillery is also able to produce excellent single grain whiskies. Within the Girvan Distillery complex the Ladyburn Distillery produced malt whisky from 1966 until 1975.
Carries crunched sugar (then barley sugar) and spices, sweet oils and a bit of the original Bourbon cask – all on the nose. Massively sweet on the palate – distinctly syrupy it then warms to an Italian herbal liqueur style and those same earlier detected spices. It has a short but still sweet finish with a late/more oaky suggestion to it.
