Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich tropical fruit aromas complement sweet honey and dried banana. Faint floral notes come to the fore alongside vanilla opod and a hint of grapefruit. Taste: Rich orange zest flavours combine with butterscotch and Brazil nut. Pineapple and mango notes give way to toasted oak. Finish: Full and sweet with lemon and faint spice.
Dallas Dhu 43 Year Old 1979 Private Collection (2023) is an extraordinarily rare Speyside single malt Scotch whisky from the silent Dallas Dhu Distillery, which closed its doors in 1983. Distilled on 8th June 1979, this exceptional expression spent over four decades resting in a single refill American hogshead (#1404) before being bottled on 11th January 2023 by Gordon & MacPhail for their prestigious Private Collection – Lost Distilleries Recollection Series #2. Only 155 hand-blown crystal decanters exist, capturing the final echoes of a lost Speyside icon.

Why We Think You’ll Love It

  • A rare single malt from the closed Dallas Dhu Distillery (ceased production in 1983)

  • Distilled in 1979 and aged for 43 years

  • Matured in a single refill American hogshead

  • Bottled by Gordon & MacPhail for the Recollection Series #2

  • Limited to just 155 hand-blown crystal decanters

A graceful glimpse into the quiet soul of a lost Speyside distillery.

The Distillery

Dallas Dhu
Dallas Dhu Distillery, designed by Charles C. Doig and founded by Alexander Edward in 1898, is located near Dallas in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region. Although it ceased operations as a working malt whisky distillery in 1983, it has functioned as a distillery museum under the care of Historic Environment Scotland, retaining much of its original equipment—including two round wooden worm tubs—and participating in the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival. In recent years, Gordon & MacPhail has released vintage Dallas Dhu bottlings, reflecting continued interest in this storied site. In July 2024, a major development was announced: Dallas Dhu Distillery will reopen as an operational distillery with a visitor centre, managed by Aceo Distillers Company Limited (Aceo) through a phased program of site development—heralding a new chapter for this historic Speyside landmark.
