Tasting Notes

Nose: An intense nose. Concentrated vanilla, caramel, crushed digestive biscuits and warm, buttery shortbread. Taste: A warming dram, with that typical Craigellachie chunkiness. The virgin oak influence is strong - pouring honey, sweet butterscotch, molten Demerara sugar and almond pralines. Some sweet spiciness comes through at the back - nutmeg, and a little pepper - with a hint of marzipan too.

The Distillery

Craigellachie
Craigellachie Distillery, founded by Alexander Edward and Peter Mackie in 1888 and opened in 1891, anchors the Speyside whisky village that shares its name. Designed by celebrated architect Charles C. Doig, it remains one of the few malt whisky distilleries in Scotland to cool its spirit using traditional worm tubs, contributing to the distinctive, full-bodied profile of its single malts. While the majority of Craigellachie’s output supports famous blends like White Horse and Dewar’s, discerning whisky enthusiasts can discover independent bottlings that showcase the distillery’s unique heritage and architectural significance within the Speyside region.
