A treasured relic from a bygone era, this Rare Old 2015 bottling by Gordon & MacPhail hails from a lost Scottish distillery, now silent but never forgotten. Matured in a refill sherry hogshead, this single malt captures the refined spirit of a distillery whose whiskies are increasingly scarce. Bottled from Lot RO/15/08161, it forms part of Gordon & MacPhail’s revered Rare Old series, celebrated for reviving exceptional, mature whiskies from closed distilleries.

The Distillery

Coleburn
Coleburn Distillery, designed by renowned architect Charles C. Doig in 1897 for a Dundee-based whisky blending firm, officially opened in 1899 at Coleburn Farm, just south of Fogwatt in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region. Conveniently located beside Colburn Railway Station, it enjoyed swift transportation links to southern blenders, contributing to its early success. However, Coleburn closed in 1985, and while many of the historic buildings remain, much of the original equipment has been removed. Today, recent releases—such as Gordon & MacPhail’s Coleburn Rare Old—are highly collectable, reflecting the distillery’s status as a rare and sought-after Speyside malt.
