A well-rounded, classy single malt double matured in Oloroso sherry casks. This is a very easy to drink Highland malt, especially as an aperitif.
Clynelish Distillery is a malt whisky distillery situated at Brora on the Sutherland coast in Scotland’s Highland whisky region. The original Clynelish Distillery was founded in 1819 by the Marquis of Stafford and a new Clynelish Distillery was built in 1967 close-by the original. The new distillery has been enlarged in recent years and is now a major contributor to the Johnnie Walker range of blended Scotch. Visitors are welcomed at Clynelish Distillery Visitor Centre which offers tours around the new distillery and the opportunity to view parts of the original Clynelish Distillery.
On the nose immediate raisins, in fact rum and raisin. Dried orange peel. In time a clean walnut crispness appears. Water makes it softer, dried cherry, sultana, apricot and some honey. The palate is very sweet with plumped up dried fruit. Sultana cake with thick butter and underneath a bowl of nuts; hazelnut and macadamia. A slightly salty quality cutting through the unctuous texture.
