Cardhu Distillery was officially established at Cardhu farm in 1824 and was equipped with two small stills. Output was quite small until a new purpose built distillery was constructed just up the road and equipped with four stills. Cardhu Distillery is a malt whisky distillery situated in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region and a contributor to Diagio’s Johnnie Walker blended scotch. Visitors are welcomed at the Cardhu Distillery visitor centre where distillery tours are available and the distillery is a participant in the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival.      Nose: Chocolate, toffee and hint of antiseptic cream. Orange candy grows. Very sweet and quite floral. Becomes a little bread like – nan bread with a touch of Turkish delights. Taste: Lots of orange notes, butter lemons, brown sugar, toffee and some dark fruits, brambles perhaps? Finish: Hot cross buns with oranges, some forest fruits and quite creamy.

The Distillery

Cardhu
Cardhu Distillery traces its roots to 1811, when John and Helen Cumming began producing malt whisky on their Cardhu Farm using a single illicit still. Officially founded in 1824, the original distillery featured two small stills, producing modest quantities until a larger, purpose-built facility with four stills was constructed just up the road. Today, Cardhu stands as a notable Speyside malt whisky distillery and a key contributor to Diageo’s Johnnie Walker blended Scotch range. Showcasing its commitment to tradition and quality, Cardhu offers several popular single malts, including the 12 Year Old, 15 Year Old, and Amber Rock, each reflecting the distinct character and heritage of this historic Scottish distillery.
