Relish coastal Highland rarity with Brora 1982 – Gordon & MacPhail “Rare Old” (bottled 2015, Lot RO/15/01).
Distilled in the twilight years before Brora’s 1983 closure, this revered spirit slumbered for over three decades in a single refill sherry puncheon. Drawn at a contemplative 46 % ABV, non-chill-filtered and natural in colour, only 365 individually numbered bottles reveal Brora’s trademark waxy-briny smoke now entwined with polished oak, citrus oil and subtle dried-fruit sweetness—a fleeting glimpse of a lost coastal icon.

Why We Think You’ll Love It

  • Silent-still pedigree: authentic Brora character—waxy malt, coastal smoke and Highland herb—preserved from a bygone age.

  • Refill sherry puncheon lends nuanced fruitcake sweetness and refined oak without overwhelming the spirit’s briny backbone.

  • Bottled at 46 % ABV, non-chill-filtered, natural colour—delivering full texture, aroma and clarity.

  • Part of Gordon & MacPhail’s elite “Rare Old” series—strictly 365 bottles, a must-have for collectors and Brora devotees.

  • Harmonious fusion of delicate smoke, orchard brightness, subtle sherry richness and polished oak—perfect for contemplative sipping.

Immerse yourself in this distinguished Brora and savour an evocative union of coastal peat, elegant fruit and time-softened oak—a legendary dram that keeps a lost distillery’s spirit alive in every luxurious sip.

The Distillery

Brora
Brora Distillery, located near the Sutherland coast at the edge of Brora, was originally established in 1819 as Clynelish Distillery by the Marquis of Stafford and the Countess of Sutherland, producing premium Highland malt whisky on their expansive estate. Renamed Brora Distillery in 1975, its surviving yet delicate buildings showcase a round red brick chimney, a malt kiln with a pagoda roof, a bellcote crowned by a gilded weathercock, two substantial wooden worm tubs, a tiny gauger’s house, and two modest copper stills. Despite its closure in 1983, the site gained renown as a lost Scottish malt whisky distillery until 21st May 2021, when Brora Distillery reopened its gates after thirty-eight years, revitalizing its storied heritage and reasserting its position among Scotland’s most iconic Highland whisky landmarks.
