Tasting Notes

Only Bowmore can  give life to such rare, unique and unrepeatable declinations. Elegant, fragrant nose. Rich in tones of white chocolate and powder that contrast with hints of stove charcoal and toasted wood. All this is the forerunner to those peaty tones that manifest themselves in in a delicate and not overwhelming way.

Introducing the Bowmore 1997 Samaroli (2021)—a captivating Islay single malt Scotch whisky, distilled in 1997 and bottled in 2021 by the renowned independent bottler Samaroli. This rare expression hails from a single sherry cask (#54), yielding just 532 numbered bottles, and exemplifies the elegance and complexity for which both Bowmore and Samaroli are celebrated.

Samaroli’s meticulous cask selection and bottling philosophy shine through in this limited release, enhancing Bowmore’s signature coastal smokiness with the deep richness of sherry maturation. A refined dram that balances maritime power with delicate finesse.

The Distillery

Bowmore
Bowmore Distillery, founded by David Simpson in 1779 on the shores of Loch Indaal on the Isle of Islay, is recognized as one of the oldest working distilleries on Islay and among the earliest malt whisky distilleries in Scotland. Renowned for its dedication to traditional production methods, Bowmore still malts a portion of its barley on heritage malting floors and uses its own malt kilns—a practice that contributes to its distinct Islay single malt character. Actively participating in Feis Ile, the annual Islay Festival of Malt and Music, Bowmore offers special bottlings during this vibrant celebration, further cementing its reputation among whisky enthusiasts. Popular official releases include the Bowmore 12 Year Old, 15 Year Old, and 25 Year Old, each showcasing the distillery’s hallmark fusion of peat smoke and maritime influence that has made Bowmore an essential name in Scotch whisky history.
