Bladnoch 8 Year Old Wigtown Festival Lowland single malt Scotch whisky. Rare 1st edition bottling under the stewardship of the current owners. Launched at the Wigtown Book Festival 2009. 250 bottles. Bladnoch John and Thomas McClelland opened Bladnoch malt whisky Distillery in 1817 on the northern bank of the River Bladnoch at Bladnoch Bridge just upstream from Wigtown in south west Scotland. Bladnoch Distillery is a small Scottish Lowlands malt whisky distillery and the most southerly of all Scotland’s working distilleries. Closed in 1993 but back in production again in 2000. Bladnoch Distillery is equipped with just two stills, produces peated and unpeated single malt whiskies and fills just a few hundred casks annually. Visitors welcome in the Bladnoch Distillery visitor centre where distillery tours are available.  Nose is medium bodied and malty, showing lemon, a slight medicinal note, some cereal and toffee/vanilla; water softens it and brings out hazelnuts, zesty lemons and grapefruit. Mediun-dry palate and rich with good body, vanilla and an oily, unctuous smoothness, very clean and with a character of American cream soda.

The Distillery

Bladnoch
Bladnoch Distillery, founded in 1817 by brothers John and Thomas McClelland, is a historic Lowlands single malt whisky distillery located on the northern bank of the River Bladnoch, near Bladnoch Bridge and just upstream from Wigtown in southwest Scotland. Equipped with two small stills, this intimate operation has experienced multiple closures over the years, most recently in 2009, but is undergoing extensive refurbishment with a re-opening planned for late 2016. Known for producing distinctive Lowlands single malt, Bladnoch whiskies are also available through independent bottlers, including Gordon & MacPhail and the Old Malt Cask range from Hunter Laing, ensuring continued interest in this storied distillery’s unique contributions to Scottish whisky heritage.
