Benrinnes single cask #444. Bottled 2007 by Berry Brothers, London.
Benrinnes Distillery was established by Peter Mackenzie in 1826 on the north-west shoulder of Ben Rinns Mountain and until the advent of modern road transport systems Benrinnes Distillery was rather isolated. Only a small percentage of Benrinnes malt whisky is released as Benrinnes single malt including Benrinnes Flora & Fauna. Since 1956 distillation at Benrinnes followed an unusual and complex partial triple distillation process but this was replaced by double distillation around 2010. Benrinnes Distillery is one of the few Scottish distilleries continuing to cool its spirit in traditional worm tubs and is a participant in the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival.
The Whisky is produced by a triple distillation which adds complexity. White chocolate and white pepper complements the aromas of nougat and melon skin. The palate is succulent, brimming with vanilla and fruit. There is a salty ham element, hints of Dundee cake and the very satisfying lingering finale beckons.
