Finish Long, warm, and deeply satisfying, with lingering sherry-soaked fruit, dry spice, and a whisper of earthy peat.
This Banff 1976 vintage Highland single malt Scotch whisky was matured in a refill sherry butt and bottled in September 2005 by Gordon & MacPhail for their esteemed Connoisseurs Choice series. A rare glimpse into the whisky legacy of the now-closed Banff Distillery, this bottling showcases the distillery’s elegant yet robust Highland spirit.

Why We Think You’ll Love It

  • Rare single malt from the closed Banff Distillery.

  • Bottled by Gordon & MacPhail—legendary independent bottlers.

  • Matured in a refill sherry butt for nearly three decades.

  • A beautiful balance of sherry richness and Highland complexity.

This 1976 Banff is a historical dram—elegant, rare, and deeply evocative of a bygone era in Scottish whisky making.

The Distillery

Banff
Originally established as the Mill of Banff Distillery by Major James McKilligan in 1824 at Mains of Colleonard Farm, just south of Banff, this early site closed in 1863 when Simpson’s son built a new distillery at Inverboyndie—later known as Banff Distillery. Although Banff played a notable role in Scotland’s Highland malt whisky tradition, it ceased operations in 1983, was partially demolished in 1985, and suffered further destruction in a 1991 fire. As a result, Banff now ranks among Scotland’s lost distilleries, with remaining casks and bottlings—such as those in the Gordon & MacPhail Rare Old series—highly coveted by whisky collectors and connoisseurs worldwide.
