Balblair Distillery
Balblair Distillery was originally established by John Ross at Balblair Farm just to the west of Ederton by the southern shore of the Dornoch Firth. Whilst distillation was probably in progress as early as 1749 Balblair malt whisky distillery was officially established in 1790 when most things were moved by manpower and gravity. Then a short move and into new buildings situated right beside Ederton railway station in 1894 to connect to the whisky blenders down south. Balblair is a fantastic Scottish Highland malt distillery, stone built and slate roofed, which has retained its round red brick chimney, single pagoda roof and dunnage warehouses. Balblair Distillery visitor centre welcomes visitors and offers tours around Balblair Distillery.
Nose: Sweet and fruity with hints of strawberry and ripe banana. A toasted malt edge develps with a touch of vanilla.
Taste: A touch of black cracked pepper followed by summer fruits and citrus flavours. A creamy milk chocolate edge lingers.
