Auchentoshan 17 Year Old 1997 vintage Lowland single malt Scotch whisky. Single cask refill hogshead #10890 bottled October 2014 by Hunter Laing & Co. for the Old Malt Cask series. Auchentoshan
Auchentoshan Distillery was built by John Bulloch around 1800 and originally named Duntocher Distillery and officially licensed in 1823 but renamed Auchentoshan Distillery during the 1830s. Auchentoshan is situated just north of Dalmuir, close by the northern bank of the River Clyde and the Forth and Clyde Canal. Then it was in the countryside but now on the north western fringe of Glasgow, just a swift twenty minutes from Glasgow city centre and not too far from Loch Lomond. Auchentoshan is now one of Scotland’s few operational Lowland malt whisky distilleries and one of the very few distilleries in the whole of Scotland to produce malt whisky using a full triple distillation process. Auchentoshan Distillery tours available at the distillery visitor centre where Auchentoshan Three Wood can be sampled. Nose. Vanilla fudge, with blackberries and orange peel. Palate. Soft fruits drizzled with creamy vanilla custard. Finish. A medium to long finish, with a pleasing hint of oak.

The Distillery

Auchentoshan
Originally built by John Bulloch around 1800 and licensed in 1823 as Duntocher Distillery, Auchentoshan Distillery adopted its current name in the 1830s. Perched just north of Dalmuir by the River Clyde, Auchentoshan once sat in open countryside but now borders the northwestern edge of Glasgow, not far from Loch Lomond. One of the few Scottish distilleries to employ full triple distillation, Auchentoshan produces a uniquely light and refined Lowland single malt. Independent bottlings from Wemyss, Hunter Laing, and Cadenheads remain highly popular, reflecting the enduring appeal of Auchentoshan’s smooth, approachable character.
