Tasting Notes

Nose: Plumes of smouldering driftwood and charcoal mingle with sweet raspberry jam, smoked cinnamon sticks and a touch of salted liquorice. Palate: Thick waves of peat embers roll into flavours of blackcurrant compôte, clove-spiked toffee and peppered bacon, all wrapped in a wine-soaked oak richness. Finish: Long, warming and ashy, leaving echoes of barbecue smoke, dark berries and a final, spicy oak pulse.
Marking Ardbeg Day at Fèis Ìle 2018, the Ardbeg Grooves – Committee Release puts a bohemian twist on classic Islay peat. In this limited-edition bottling, Ardbeg’s powerfully smoky spirit undergoes double maturation in intensely re-toasted red-wine casks—their deep char etched with “grooves” that concentrate flavour. The result is a whisky that fuses camp-fire smoke with vibrant jammy fruit in true festival style.

Why We Think You’ll Love It:

  • A festival-only Committee Release created for Ardbeg Day 2018—collectible and characterful.

  • Re-toasted red-wine casks carve deep “grooves” into the wood, intensifying layers of smoke, jammy fruit and spice.

  • Bottled at elevated Committee strength for maximum punch and unfiltered authenticity.

  • Perfect for peat lovers seeking an Ardbeg that balances island intensity with unconventional fruity sweetness.

The Distillery

Ardbeg
Established in 1815 by John McDougal, Ardbeg Distillery is located on the Kildalton Peninsula of the Isle of Islay—a region celebrated for its peaty single malts. Drawing soft, peaty water from Loch Uigeadail and Loch Airigh nam Beist in the hills behind the distillery, Ardbeg crafts an iconic range of whiskies, including the highly regarded Ardbeg Uigeadail and Ardbeg 10 Year Old. Each year, Ardbeg takes part in the Feis Ile, the island’s world-renowned Festival of Malt and Music, welcoming visitors to its distillery tours and the Old Kiln Café, which serves mouthwatering Scottish fare. Immerse yourself in Ardbeg’s rich heritage and discover why it remains a standout name among Islay single malt whisky distilleries.
