Tasting Notes

NOSE Intense with a burst of charcoal, creosote, tar and treacle toffee, with curious hints of something vegetal, like fennel, celery and green peppers. Once these subside, there are hints of milk chocolate, aniseed and woodsmoke. With a little drop of water, some more herbal notes appear, like fennel, coriander and lavender, along with some characteristic Ardbeg aromatic woodsmoke and a hint of fresh, salty sea spray. TASTE A distinctively peppery mouthfeel eases into a complex symphony of flavours; treacle toffee, aniseed, salted caramel chocolate, eucalyptus, menthol and briar wood, to name but a few. The ‘tingling’, peppery sensation on the palate continues, with the sweeter flavours giving way to more savoury notes like charcoal, smoked bacon, burnt toast and tar. FINISH The aftertaste is long and lingering, with a suggestion of peppermint and clove.
Unleash untamed Islay peat with Ardbeg 8 Years Old – Committee Release 2021 (“For Discussion”). Conceived as an experiment for the Ardbeg Committee, this whisky is aged exclusively in ex-Sherry casks and bottled at a punchy 50.8 % ABV. The result is a fearless dram that pairs Ardbeg’s trademark bonfire smoke and salty coastal edge with a youthful, sherry-driven burst of dark fruit and spice—inviting Committee members to debate what the next chapter of Ardbeg should taste like.

Why We Think You’ll Love It:

  • A Committee-only bottling: crafted “For Discussion” and available exclusively to Ardbeg’s most devoted fans.

  • 8-year maturation in ex-Sherry casks delivers a bold fusion of rich fruit sweetness and raw island smoke.

  • Bottled at 50.8 % ABV, non-chill-filtered, preserving maximum intensity, mouthfeel and aroma.

  • Perfect for peat lovers eager to explore Ardbeg’s youthful, experimental side—and to join the ongoing conversation about the distillery’s future flavour frontier.

The Distillery

Ardbeg
Established in 1815 by John McDougal, Ardbeg Distillery is located on the Kildalton Peninsula of the Isle of Islay—a region celebrated for its peaty single malts. Drawing soft, peaty water from Loch Uigeadail and Loch Airigh nam Beist in the hills behind the distillery, Ardbeg crafts an iconic range of whiskies, including the highly regarded Ardbeg Uigeadail and Ardbeg 10 Year Old. Each year, Ardbeg takes part in the Feis Ile, the island’s world-renowned Festival of Malt and Music, welcoming visitors to its distillery tours and the Old Kiln Café, which serves mouthwatering Scottish fare. Immerse yourself in Ardbeg’s rich heritage and discover why it remains a standout name among Islay single malt whisky distilleries.
