Tasting Notes

Nose: Billows of campfire smoke and sea-spray mingle with creamy vanilla pod, shaved coconut and a spark of lemon peel Palate: An assertive burst of smouldering peat wraps around notes of charred oak staves, honeyed malt and warm white pepper, followed by flashes of sweet shortbread and grilled tropical fruit Finish: Long, dry and invigorating, leaving persistent ember-like smoke, a touch of salted caramel and hints of spiced oak that ebb away with maritime freshness

Celebrate Islay’s iconic whisky festival with Lagavulin 12 Year Old – Fèis Ìle 2022, a limited‐edition expression matured in refill American-oak hogsheads and given a bold finish in virgin American-oak casks. Bottled exclusively for the 2022 Fèis Ìle and restricted to 6,336 individually numbered bottles, this vibrant release marries Lagavulin’s unmistakable peat smoke and Atlantic brine with layers of toasted oak, vanilla sweetness and fresh citrus. Unchill-filtered and bottled at festival strength, it captures the raw coastal power and craft heritage that whisky lovers travel the world to experience each May on Islay.

Why We Think You’ll Love It:

  • Captures Lagavulin’s famed Islay smoke amplified by a finish in virgin American oak for extra layers of vanilla, spice and toasted sweetness

  • Bottled for Fèis Ìle 2022—a festival-only edition with just 6,336 numbered bottles, perfect for collectors and peat aficionados

  • Combines the finesse of refill hogsheads with the punch of new oak, delivering a complex interplay of coastal brine, citrus brightness and deep, resonant peat

  • Presented unchill-filtered, at true festival strength, preserving full body, aroma and the unmistakable Lagavulin character

Savour a piece of Islay’s festival spirit with this compelling Lagavulin 12 Year Old—where rugged shoreline smoke meets the vibrant sweetness of fresh American oak in a dram made for celebration.

The Distillery

Lagavulin
Lagavulin Distillery, founded in 1816 by John Johnston on the rugged south coast of the Isle of Islay, is celebrated for producing superbly balanced peated single malt Scotch whisky. Originally adjacent to the now-lost Malt Mill Distillery (1908-1960s), Lagavulin retains part of its historic buildings. Equipped with four traditional stills, the distillery crafts iconic expressions like the renowned Lagavulin 16 Year Old and the exclusive Distillers Edition. Each year, a limited single cask bottling is released for Feis Ile, the prestigious Islay Festival of Malt and Music, reinforcing Lagavulin’s status as a premier Islay whisky producer.
