The Distillery

1811년 글래스고의 포트 던다스 지역에 다니엘 맥팔레인이 설립한 포트 던다스 증류소는 스코틀랜드 위스키 산업의 초석이었습니다. 이 지역은 빠르게 산업 중심지로 발전했으며, 포트 던다스라는 이름을 공유하는 세 개의 증류소가 들어섰습니다. 1845년에는 운영 중이던 두 증류소가 곡물 증류주 생산을 위해 코피 증류기를 도입했고, 1877년에 합병되어 1885년에는 세계 최대 규모의 증류소가 되었습니다. 이곳에서는 옥수수, 보리, 호밀을 원료로 사용했으며, 곡물은 미국에서 수입했습니다. 1886년 전성기에는 맥아 건조로 2개, 곡물 건조로 5개, 발효조 35개, 코피 증류기 3개, 포트 증류기 5개를 갖추고 있었습니다. 이 증류소는 2010년에 문을 닫았고, 곧이어 철거되면서 위스키 역사에 한 획을 그었습니다.
