There’s finally good news for Scotch whisky lovers on both sides of the Atlantic. The United States has officially removed the 10% tariff on Scotch whisky imports, ending more than a year of additional costs and uncertainty for Scotland’s biggest export market.
The US remains the most valuable overseas market for Scotch whisky, with the industry estimating tariffs had been costing distillers around £4 million per week and contributing to a sharp drop in exports throughout 2025 (1).
For whisky fans, collectors and independent bottlers alike, this is a welcome moment. Easier trade between Scotland and the USA means renewed confidence across the industry — from the great distilleries of Speyside and Islay to smaller independent releases and single cask bottlings.

At The Whisky Barrel we’ve continued shipping Scotch whisky worldwide throughout the tariff uncertainty, and we’re excited to see the US market open up once again without the additional levy on Scotch imports.
Whether you’re searching for rare old single malts, sherry cask exclusives, smoky Islay drams or collectible independent bottlings, there’s never been a better time to explore what’s new.
