Tomatin 45 Year Old 1967 Director's Cut

Tomatin 45 Year Old 1967 vintage Highland single malt Scotch whisky. Single cask refill sherry butt #9315 bottled December 2012 by Douglas Laing & Co. for the Director's Cut series. Tomatin Tomatin malt whisky distillery was established in 1897 and operated with two stills until 1956 after which there were frequent and numerous additions culminating in 23 stills in 1986 making Tomatin the largest distillery in Scotland at that time. However, eleven were subsequently closed and it is currently operating with twelve. Tomatin Distillery is a Scottish Highland distillery situated close to the Cairngorms National Park and sitting at an altitude of 315m it is the third highest distillery in Scotland. Great importance is placed on the quality of its casks and Tomatin Distillery is one of very few Scottish distilleries to continue to operate a cooperage and to employ a cooper on site. Visitors are welcomed at the Tomatin Distillery visitor centre where distillery tours are available.  Nose: Opens with a damp, autumn forest character, developing to dried fruit, sweet spices and warm Seville oranges.
Palate: Surprisingly sweet and mellow, carrying an attractive, richly spiced toffee quality then running to dried orange pith.
Finish: Medium long, still spicy – now running to rich vanilla before drying to a soft oak quality.
