Nose: Sweet toffee apple aromas combine with orange peel and crystalised violets. Fragrant pear gives way to undertines of aged leather and cocoa powder. Taste: Tart raspberry flavours lead to bright citrus zest and black pepper. Dried exotic fruit comes to the fore alongside toasted almonds. Finish: Full and spicy finish with lingering sweet fruit and oak.

Distilled on 21st July 1972 and nurtured in a single refill American hogshead (#3430), this exceptional whisky was bottled on 10th November 2022 by Gordon & MacPhail for their revered Private Collection series. Only 143 hand-blown crystal decanters were produced, underscoring the rarity and prestige of this release.

The Distillery

Tamdhu Distillery, founded in 1896 in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region, began production in 1897, designed by the renowned Charles Doig. Originally equipped with two stills, capacity expanded to four in 1972 and six in 1975 to meet the growing demand for Famous Grouse and Cutty Sark blends, where Tamdhu was a key component. After closing in 2010, along with Scotland’s last working Saladin malting boxes, Tamdhu was purchased and re-opened by Ian Macleod Distillers in 2012. Its celebrated single malts include the Tamdhu 10 Year Old and Batch Strength expressions.
