Tasting Notes

Nose: Waves of demerara syrup, coconut macaroon and orange blossom drift over polished oak, toasted almond and a whisper of sandalwood. Palate: Silky floods of toffee fudge, pineapple upside-down cake and vanilla cream coat the tongue, followed by cinnamon stick, marzipan and a soft puff of toasted oak. Finish: Long, warming and satin-smooth—lingering honeyed grain biscuit, mellow oak tannin and a final flourish of candied citrus and nutmeg.
Rediscover the silenced art of grain whisky with Port Dundas 43 Year Old – 1974 Vintage, Exclusive Grains. Distilled at Glasgow’s fabled Port Dundas (closed 2009) and laid to rest in a single refill bourbon hogshead #71704, this whisky spent more than four decades mellowing into silk before Creative Whisky Co. bottled it in 2018 for their boutique Exclusive Grains series. Presented at natural cask strength, un-chill-filtered and natural in colour, only 228 individually numbered bottles showcase a Lowland grain of rare age: satin-smooth vanilla sweetness interlaced with polished oak, tropical fruit and gentle baking spice.

Why We Think You’ll Love It

  • 43 years of patient maturation turn Port Dundas’s creamy grain spirit into a tapestry of tropical fruit, vanilla and refined oak.

  • Drawn from a single refill bourbon hogshead (#71704) for nuanced sweetness without heavy wood dominance.

  • Bottled at natural cask strength, non-chill-filtered and natural colour—capturing full texture, aroma and authenticity.

  • Limited to just 228 bottles for Creative Whisky Co.’s Exclusive Grains series—an essential addition for collectors of long-aged grain whisky and silent-still treasures.

Raise a glass to Glasgow’s lost giant with this stately Port Dundas—where silky grain elegance, tropical sweetness and polished oak converge in every luxurious sip.

The Distillery

Port Dundas
Port Dundas Distillery, founded by Daniel McFarlane in 1811 in Glasgow’s Port Dundas area, was a cornerstone of Scotland’s whisky industry. The area rapidly evolved into an industrial hub with three distilleries sharing the Port Dundas name. By 1845, the two operating distilleries adopted Coffey stills for grain spirit production and merged in 1877, becoming the world’s largest distillery by 1885, processing corn, barley, and rye, with grain imported from America. At its peak in 1886, it featured two malt kilns, five grain kilns, thirty-five washbacks, three Coffey stills, and five pot stills. The distillery closed in 2010, with demolition following shortly after, marking the end of a significant chapter in whisky history.
