Rare highland single malt from the closed distillery. Bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in 2008 under their Rare Old label. Glenlochy Glenlochy Distillery was established at Inverlochy on the north-eastern side of Fort William in 1898 with a railway siding connecting to the newly opened Fort William railway line. Glenlochy Distillery obtained its water from the slopes of Scotland’s highest mountain. The only official release of Glenlochy single malt whisky was in Diageo’s Rare Malts range. Closed in 1983 and dismantled in 1986 however a number of Glenlochy Distillery buildings are still standing having been converted to private accommodation. On the nose mulled fruits with hints of cooking apples. Smoky palate initially with charred oak and dry spices. Fruity notes with roasted malt and dry grass flavours.

The Distillery

Glenlochy
Glenlochy Distillery, established in 1901 after construction began in 1898, was a prominent Highland whisky distillery located at Inverlochy on the northeastern side of Fort William, Scotland. Strategically equipped with its own railway siding connecting to the newly opened Fort William railway line, Glenlochy efficiently supplied southern markets with its exceptional single malt Scotch whisky. The distillery utilized pure snow and rain water draining from the slopes of Ben Nevis, Scotland’s highest mountain, ensuring superior water quality for its whisky production. Despite its successful operations, Glenlochy closed in 1983 and was dismantled in 1986, though several of its historic buildings remain, now repurposed into private residences. Today, Glenlochy’s legacy continues through rare single malt releases featured in Diageo’s Rare Malts range and the exclusive Gordon & MacPhail Rare Old series, making these whiskies highly sought after by whisky collectors and enthusiasts worldwide. As one of Scotland’s lost malt whisky distilleries, Glenlochy remains a revered name in the history of Scottish whisky, celebrated for its rich heritage, distinctive Highland character, and enduring influence on the global whisky landscape.
