Kilkerran Work in Progress 7 Sherrywood Campbeltown single malt Scotch whisky distilled at Glengyle distillery. The final release of the WIP series, an 11 Year Old bottled 2015 and fully matured in sherry casks. 12,000 bottles. Glengyle William Mitchell established Glengyle Distillery in 1872 in Campbeltown at the foot of the Kintyre Peninsular. Closed in 1925, malt whisky stock sold and all the equipment removed. The buildings were purchased by Hedley Wright in 2000 who re-furbished and re-opened Glengyle Distillery in 2004. Now equipped with two small stills and operating for one or two months per year to produce Glengyle single malt whisky which is called Kilkeran. Nose: Toasted pink marshmallows spinning around fresh rhubarb and green apples. Toffee and treacle adds to the sweetness but an earthy note keeps this whisky well balanced and not overpoweringly sweet. Palate: Heather honey and digestive biscuits. Creamy milk chocolate, black cherries mix with oak and wood spice. A truly complex and interesting dram. Finish: Dry nutty finish with some gentle peat lingering along with some further oak notes... delicious.

The Distillery

Glengyle
Glengyle Distillery, originally founded in 1872 in Campbeltown at the foot of the Kintyre Peninsula, is a storied landmark in Scotland’s renowned Highland whisky region. After ceasing operations in 1925, the distillery sold all malt whisky stock and removed its equipment, leaving only the historic buildings intact. In 2000, Hedley Wright, proprietor of Springbank Distillery and a descendant of William Mitchell, acquired the surviving structures and undertook a meticulous refurbishment. Glengyle Distillery was successfully reopened in 2004, now equipped with two small stills and operating for one to two months each year to produce its esteemed single malt whisky known as Kilkerran. Since its revival, Glengyle has released regular batches of Work in Progress, culminating in the introduction of the highly anticipated Kilkerran 12 Year Old in 2016. This revival not only honors the distillery’s rich heritage but also contributes to the vibrant Campbeltown whisky landscape, making Glengyle Distillery a cherished destination for whisky enthusiasts and collectors seeking authentic and exceptional single malts.
