Bunnahabhain 36 Year Old Sherry Cask

Douglas Laing Old & Rare Platinum Selection. Rarely seen sherry wood Bunnahabhain - let alone at this age. Single sherry butt distilled May 1974 and bottled November 2010. 206 bottles. Bunnahabhain Bunnahabhain Distillery was established in 1881 on the north eastern tip of the Isle of Islay by the shore of Bunnahabhain Bay and overlooking the Sound of Islay. All the building materials were transported by puffer and unloaded at the distillery pier. Now tucked away at the end of the single track ‘main’ road with spectacular scenery all the way. Bunnahabhain Distillery is equipped with four huge pear shaped stills and produces Scottish malt whisky which is released in blends and single malts. Visitors are welcomed at the distillery visitor centre and distillery cottages are available for holiday lets. A participant in Feis Ile, the annual Islay Festival of Malt and Music.    On the nose detect alcohol soaked in fruit – heavily spiced – plus distinct toffee and orange pith aromas. Palatewise it is still massively spiced – with vanilla evident in its fudge which is lightly salted – also lightly peated - carrying attractive and delicate oceanic flavours too.  The finish carries ginger, pepper, light oak, black coffee and more marinaded dark fruit.
