Gordon & MacPhail

Founded in 1895 by James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail, this renowned Elgin-based Scotch whisky enterprise welcomed John Urquhart into the business the same year. Urquhart became a partner in 1915, following MacPhail’s retirement. When Gordon passed away in 1917, the Urquhart family assumed full ownership, guiding the independent family business to steady growth and building an impressive stock of quality casks from numerous Scottish distilleries. In 1993, they acquired the Benromach Distillery, further cementing their influence in the world of single malt Scotch whisky. Today, their celebrated portfolio features the Connoisseurs Choice, Cask Strength, Rare Old, and Speymalt ranges—each reflecting a deep commitment to craftsmanship and tradition.
