Bunnahabhain 46 Year Old 1971 Signatory Rare Reserve is an extraordinary Islay single malt Scotch whisky, bottled by Signatory Vintage for their prestigious Cask Strength Rare Reserve Collection. Distilled in 1971 and matured for an incredible 46 years in a single hogshead (#2226), this ultra-rare expression was bottled in July 2017 at natural cask strength (42.8% ABV), with just 95 individually numbered bottles released.

Crafted at the coastal Bunnahabhain Distillery, this long-aged single malt reflects the distillery’s unpeated, maritime style—elegant, complex, and subtly influenced by decades of maturation. Extended ageing in a hogshead has allowed the spirit to develop remarkable depth while retaining balance and finesse.

The Distillery

Bunnahabhain
Bunnahabhain Distillery, founded in 1881 on the northeastern tip of the Isle of Islay, sits by Bunnahabhain Bay, overlooking the Sound of Islay. Originally constructed with materials ferried by puffer and unloaded at the distillery pier, it’s now tucked away at the end of a single-track road with spectacular coastal views. Equipped with four large, pear-shaped stills, Bunnahabhain produces Scottish malt whisky for both blends and single malt or single caskbottlings. A proud participant in Feis Ile, the annual Islay Festival of Malt and Music, the distillery’s core releases—including Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old and Bunnahabhain 18 Year Old—reflect its commitment to craftsmanship and the Islay whisky tradition.
